Krafton, the South Korean gaming company known for titles such as PUBG and Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), has announced an additional investment of $250 million in India over the next three to four years. This new commitment brings Krafton’s total planned investment in the country to over $500 million, including the more than $250 million already invested since 2021. The company is expanding its focus beyond gaming into areas such as AI, robotics, and deep tech.
The investment comes despite earlier challenges, including the 2020 ban of PUBG Mobile by the Indian government, which led Krafton to introduce the localized BGMI in 2021. Although BGMI was temporarily banned in 2022, it was allowed to return on a trial basis the following year. Krafton has since continued to invest in India, supporting around 18 companies, including gaming studios like Nodwin Gaming and Loco. The new investment pledge was made following a meeting between Krafton chairman Chang Byung-gyu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they discussed potential collaborations across gaming, technology, and emerging sectors.
