Gohar Khan ’21, a first-generation student from a small town, founded the YouTube channel “Gohar’s Guide” to assist other young people with the college admissions process, which he had to navigate largely on his own. Born in Pakistan and raised in Connecticut, Khan attended a public high school that seldom sent students to top colleges, and his parents lacked experience with the admissions process, compounding the challenge. His mission, as stated, is to “help students worldwide succeed inside and outside of school.”
Khan’s social media presence has grown to over 10 million followers who seek his advice on college applications, study tips, and life hacks. In addition to his YouTube channel, he serves as CEO and co-founder of Next Admit, a consulting business offering support with college essays, applications, and test preparation. His endeavors aim to demystify the admissions process for individuals in situations similar to his own formative experience.
