Presentation startup Gamma has acquired Accel-backed design startup Lica, according to an exclusive report by TechCrunch. The acquisition aims to establish a design research lab within Gamma, which will be led by Lica’s co-founders, Priyaa Kalyanaraman and Purvanshi Mehta. Lica, founded in 2023, initially developed an app that transformed screenshots and recordings into project presentations and videos. The company raised $4 million in 2024 from investors including Accel, South Park Commons, and Village Global, and subsequently focused on creating marketing videos for e-commerce sites that adhere to brand guidelines.
The decision to acquire Lica stems from shared vision and investment ties, as both companies are backed by Accel and South Park Commons. Lica’s founders expressed interest in building AI models around communication methods, including video and design, which aligns with Gamma’s goals. Gamma intends to leverage the acquisition to expand its offerings beyond traditional presentations, exploring new formats of communication and interactive visuals through the newly formed research division.
