Anthropic has announced an update to Claude’s memory system that merges the memory used by chat and Claude Cowork, ensuring that Claude retains information learned in one context when interacting in another. This change aims to eliminate the frustration of repeatedly rebriefing the AI on previously known details, thereby streamlining the user experience across different phases of interaction, such as research and action implementation.
The update also introduces transparency and user control over Claude’s memory. Users can view, edit, or delete stored information on any topic, with the system defaulting to not storing personal or sensitive data unless explicitly enabled by the user. Additionally, Claude will now incrementally add topics to its memory during ongoing chats, facilitating smoother transitions between chat and Cowork functionalities. The memory feature is enabled by default across various subscription plans and platforms, with mobile users required to update their apps to the latest version.
