A “near miss” occurred last weekend between a passenger ship, San Pawl ferry, and a cruise ship tender in Guernsey Harbour, according to Guernsey Ports. The incident took place on Sunday at around 17:00 BST when Tender 14 from the AIDAsol cruise ship crossed in front of the San Pawl ferry despite red signals being in place.
James Way, the harbour master, stated that while the boats passed each other “at relatively close range,” there was no immediate danger or impact on passenger or vessel safety. He added that cruise tender skippers are briefed at the start of each day by Guernsey Ports staff on local procedures, harbor signals, and traffic management arrangements before commencing operations. Way also mentioned that maritime safety matters are always taken seriously and local traffic management procedures will continue to be reinforced with all operators ahead of future operations.
